What’s currently trending in the world of natural personal care products? Considering Bug Protector fits into this category, it’s an important question to ask — and the answers shed light on the promising direction the industry is heading.
Products that Work
Natural and organic cosmetics are thriving as they reflect an $11 billion industry, an industry that continues to grow. In fact, its growth is surpassing that of conventional products in the personal care category. How? With more people concerned about what goes into the products they use, natural retailers are delivering great products that have been proven to really work — more so than ever before. On top of this, these retailers offer diversity in their product lines, transparency about their methods, and high standards of production quality.
In the United States, people are looking for cosmetic products that are gentle and safe for their skin. More specifically, they look for a product to have natural ingredients (42%), be dermatologically tested (62%), be compatible with sensitive skin (51%) and be certified organic (32%). Because consumers are hungry to know where a product’s ingredients come from, retailers have been driven to use local sourcing in order to make sustainable claims and, in turn, meet the consumer demand for products that are ethically made (Organic Monitor).
The New Craft Beer
One way to think about the rising demand for natural products is to think about craft beer: People want a simple and authentic product that doesn’t have to hide its process. Craft and even do-it-yourself beauty products are gaining ground because consumers want to make sure the ingredients used in them are safe. It’s a mindset that challenges retailers to take things back to the basics and be transparent about their entire process.
Food for the Skin
In addition, consumers in the West are starting to see the role that gut health and diet plays in skin health and appearance. In other words, people are looking for benefits that are typically associated with nutrition, which has led to more products being made with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and even probiotics.
Creation of Advocacy Organizations
With so many natural product lines treading new ground, several organizations have formed to identify and unite companies that are committed to safe, honest products — essentially, they allow companies to prove they have met the high standards of quality that consumers are seeking. These include certifications like B CorpTM, Fair Trade, NSF and USDA Organic.
The natural products industry is vast, but its trends are exciting. We’re very glad to be part of it and look forward to see how these trends continue!
